Instructions for Transferring or Copying Google Drive
Here are a few things you need to know if you want to transfer your Google Drive content out of CUSD:
Before you begin, it is recommended to tidy up your CUSD Drive.
Place important files in folders, delete (or disregard) any files you don't want to take with you, and organize files and folders as needed. This will help the transfer process considerably.
Google Sites webpages and Google Forms most likely will not transfer out of your CUSD Google Drive.
At this time, Google Sites and Google Forms are not officially supported in the transfer process. However, they can be copied and can be moved to a Shared Drive within CUSD.
If you shared Google Drive files with others, they will lose access to those files when your account is disabled.
Please coordinate with users you have shared files with to ensure they maintain access to important files. Some potential solutions are:
transferring ownership of shared files to another user
moving shared files to a Shared Drive that is accessible by other users
having the other user make their own copy of shared files
You will lose permissions on any files or folders that have been shared with you within the CUSD Google Drive.
If you are not the author of a file or folder that has been shared with you, you will no longer have access to those items once you leave CUSD. However, you can make a copy, as will be explained later.
You only need to select one of the options below to take your CUSD files with you.
Whichever method you select, it's important to consider variables such as:
File sizes (especially large files such as videos)
Hard drive storage availability
Time required for file transfers (larger files = longer transfer times)
Personal Google Drive storage availability
Please plan accordingly.
Sharing, then making a copy of your files
Go to a file you want to take with you in your CUSD Drive, then share that file with a personal Google Drive account.
Then, log into your personal Google Drive account, and make a copy of the shared file from your CUSD Google Drive.
You will need to repeat this process for each file you want to take with you.
2. Transfer your content from the CUSD Google Drive to your personal Google Drive
Log into your CUSD Google Account at myaccount.google.com.
Select "Transfer Your Content."
Enter the personal email account (usually a Gmail address) tied to the Google Drive to which you want to send the files.
Verify the receiving account by clicking on the "Send Code" button, then check your personal email account to verify the Google Drive you want files sent to.
Select the content you want to be sent over to your personal Google Drive.
3. Use the Google Takeout feature
Log into your CUSD Google Account at myaccount.google.com.
On the menu to the left, select "Data & Privacy."
Scroll down and find the section that says "Download Your Data: Make a copy of your data to back it up."
You will be taken to "Google Takeout." Tick the boxes of all the items you want to transfer to your personal Google account.
4. Use Google Drive for Desktop
On your personal device, log into your CUSD Google Account and go to https://www.google.com/drive/download.
Choose Download Drive for Desktop. Follow the instructions to download, install, and connect.
This option backs up your CUSD Drive content to the cloud, and you can choose which files you can download to keep.
For more information on the features of Google Drive for Desktop, visit this page.
Do not wait until the last minute to follow these steps. Users who are leaving the district may have their accounts deleted very quickly after they withdraw, resign, or retire.
