Information and Considerations for Google Classroom for summer.
This page includes information and recommendations for Google Classroom for the summer for teachers who are remaining in the district.
CUSD Created Classes will be Archived
If the class was created during the year automatically by our district systems and accepted by the teacher, that class will be archived shortly after school ends.
About Archived Google Classes
You can still re-use Assignments and Classwork posts from Archived Classes.
You will still have access to documents in the Classroom folder in your Google Drive.
Students can still access their work in their Classroom folder in their Google Drive or from their Archived Classes.
Students won't see the course card in their Google Classroom dashboard.
Teachers can restore an archived class at any time. If a teacher restores and archived class, it will become visible in students' Google Classroom dashboard. Students cannot restore classes.
NOTE: If teachers declined or did not accept a Google Classroom that was made for them by CUSD during the school year, those Google Classrooms will be deleted.
Custom Classes Will Not Be Archived
If a custom class was created by a teacher during the year, the class will not be archived and will continue to remain active and be managed by the teacher(s) who are listed as a teacher in that class.
Custom Classes
Custom classes will not be archived by the district.
Custom classes will remain managed by the teachers or co-teachers through the summer and into next year.
Students will continue to see the course card on their Google Classroom dashboard unless the class is archived.
Archiving a Class
To archive a Google Classroom Class:
Visit the main Google Classroom page: https://classroom.google.com/
Find the course you want to archive. Choose the menu dots in upper right of course card.
Choose Archive. This causes the course to be archived for all participants: teachers and students. Files will still remain in Google Drive.
Restoring an Archived Class
To restore an archived class:
Visit the main Google Classroom page: https://classroom.google.com/
Click three lines for the main menu in the upper left.
Scroll to the bottom of your classes and choose Archived classes.
A new screen will appear with all archived classes (shown by lines across the header). Find the class you want to restore.
Click menu dots in upper right of the class card. Choose Restore. Restoring a class means the teacher, co-teachers, and students will all see the course in their Classroom dashboard and can interact with it.
More about archiving and restoring classes can be found here.
Secure Classes for Summer
If you choose to restore an archived class or choose not to archive custom classes, be sure to secure the class for the summer. Follow these instructions:
Enter your class and choose the Settings wheel in the upper right.
Scroll to the General section. Turn off invite codes.
Be sure only teachers can post or comment in the Stream.
Be sure the Meet link is not visible to students.
Select Save in upper right corner.
Visit the People tab. Remove co-teachers who no longer need access to the course and students who are no longer in the class.
New Google Classroom Classes will be created just before the start of the new school year based on new course enrollments.
Student will gain access to Classrooms on the first day of school.
